This group was previously known as the “Native Canadians Study Group”. The change in name to “Indigenous Peoples” reflects our interest in geographic research involving indigenous peoples within as well as beyond Canada. In addition the term 'working group' more aptly captures the collaborative relationships that tend to define research in this field. The Canadian Association of Geographers (CAG), Statistics Canada, and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada annually award The Robin P. Armstrong Memorial Prize for Excellence in Native Studies to a graduate student in geography or native studies for the best Master's or Ph.D. thesis on an aboriginal topic. A cash prize of $500 is presented at the annual CAG conference to a student who, during the current or previous calendar year, has completed a Master's or PhD thesis in native studies or geography related to Canada's aboriginal peoples. ///
Ce groupe a été précédemment connu en tant que « groupe de travail indigène de Canadiens ». Le changement du nom « au peuple autochtone » reflète notre intérêt pour la recherche géographique faisant participer le peuple autochtone dans aussi bien qu'au delà du Canada. En outre «groupe de travail» capture plus convenablement la collaboration qui tend à définir la recherche dans ce domaine. L'Association Canadienne des Géographes, Statistiques Canada, et le ministère des Affaires indiennes et du Nord canadien attribuent annuellement la Bourse Commémorative d'excellence Robin P. Armstrong pour les Études Autochtones. À l'occasion de la conférence annuelle, un montant du 500 $ est décerné à un étudiant diplômé en géographie pour le meilleur mémoire ou thèse sur un sujet autochtone.
